Following a very positive and productive meeting with Mr Ross Nicholas
(Swim Wales National Performance Director) it was unanimously agreed to
support the Performance Squad training programme that has been set out by
our Head Coach, Alex Dallimore. Ross praised the programme and the way in
which it was being delivered, stating that it was exactly the way in which
Swim Wales wants all of its Performance clubs to operate.
One area that
was highlighted as a concern, and is contrary to the guidance given by
Swim Wales, is the practice where some swimmers access different training
sessions of different squads. This is deemed detrimental to the swimmer's
long term development and unfair to other swimmers in those squads.
With immediate effect (20th July 2017) Performance Swimmers
are only to access Performance training sessions; Competitive Skills
swimmers can only access Comp Skills sessions; Development Squad swimmers
can only access Development sessions; and Senior Squad swimmers
can only access Senior Squad sessions.
Swimmers must not train outside of their squad without the explicit
permission of the Head Coach.
All coaches have
been instructed to refuse entry to swimmers from other squads.
Any swimmer opting
to move from Performance to Senior Squad must be 16 years of age.
